Missing key players, top goal scorer Scott Cross and midfielder Adam Confue with sickness, striker Danny Edmunds with an injury, Aaron King suspended, and striker Ashley Robinson, on the bench coming back from injury, meant Daventry Town were always struggling to be at their most competitive.
Uxbridge right winger Shaun Lucien was the main threat posed by Uxbridge throughout the match, taking every opportunity to run at the Daventry defence, with speed and trickery, looking to cross the ball in to the danger area.
His first effort clipped the crossbar leaving Daventry keeper Richard Morris happy to watch the ball bounce out of play, the Town had the better of the first twenty minutes, having a great deal of the possession, but creating very few clear cut chances.
Jamie Gould let fly a superb shot, which was palmed over the crossbar by a relieved Uxbridge keeper Mathew Elston –Bull, after twenty five minutes, preventing Daventry from taking a deserved early lead.
Former Watford and Northern Ireland international Michael Bryan was seeing a lot of the ball out on the right wing, and stand in striker Nat Liburd, had several efforts on goal saved by the Uxbridge keeper. Liam Dolman was having to be at his best to rein in the neat foot work and dribbling runs of Shaun Lucien.
Uxbridge went ahead in the thirty ninth minute, a long ball over the head of Marcel Simpson from Uxbridge captain Wayne Carter, fell at the feet of striker Chris Moore, who hit the ball past the oncoming Daventry keeper Richard Morris, who had briefly hesitated in coming forward, allowing Moore to hit the ball to his left and put Uxbridge one up.
Daventry were not behind for long, a great run by Ross Oulton into the Uxbridge area, the ball was then passed out to Jamie Gould, who hit a sweet shot hard past a well beaten Elston – Bull, a wonderful goal, just before half time, on forty one minutes!
Chris Moore had a golden opportunity to put Uxbridge back in the lead but Richard Morris got down low to his right to turn the ball around the post for a corner. Moore was beginning to cause problems for the Daventry defence, holding the ball up, and turning on the spot, to get shots in on goal.
Jamie Gould scored a second goal within a minute of the second half, catching a sleepy Uxbridge defence still chewing on their half time orange slices! A wonderful passing move involving three or four Town players was completed with Jamie Gould once again hitting a sweet curling shot into the top of the Uxbridge net.
Town were threatening to take control of the game, looking likely to score on every attack, Nat Liburd having a couple of headers on goal which fell on to the top of the goal or narrowly over the crossbar.
Uxbridge scored an equaliser against the run of play, winger Shaun Lucie eventually managed to get the better of Liam Dolman, Lucie then put in his cross, for an unmarked Kevin Warner to head home comfortably.
Daventry could still have gone on to win the game, but for the sending off of Daventry full back Marcel Simpson in the sixty ninth minute, which changed the game.
Simpson was judged to have made a two footed challenge in the middle of the field, and was sent off for his actions, despite the protests of Daventry players and management.
Daventry manager Darran Foster summed up his feelings after the game,`The sending off killed us, at the time we were totally on top and looking good to take the game. A very poor decision from the man in the middle, he never gave us a thing all night. I find it hard to believe a player can be sent off for a single footed challenge, when he clearly won the ball, and on numerous occasions’ late challenges from our opponents was not being dealt with.
The goal gave Uxbridge a boost and Richard Morris was called in to action several times in the last fifteen minutes to keep Daventry in the game, as it seemed to be drifting away from them. Nat Liburd put a foot to a Lucie cross, which had to be saved by Richard Morris, preventing an own goal in the dying minutes.
