Scott Cross managed a rather tame header straight into the arms of keeper Sam Southerton, from a Guy Sanders cross in the eighth minute, but after that Daventry created few, if any, serious attempts on goal in the first thirty minutes!
A free kick from SYCOB striker Nathan Poulton, went narrowly wide of the right hand post and Ryan Blake tried to chip the ball over the head of Daventry keeper Richard Morris, but fortunately for Daventry, the ball bounced well wide of the goal.
Yashwa Romeo, alongside strike partner Ryan Blake were causing the Daventry defence all kinds of problems with their pace, and Romeo was soon presented with a shot at goal after keeper Morris kicked the ball straight out to his feet.
Romeo had to react quickly and his first time shot was hit straight back at the relieved Daventry keeper.
Romeo did not have to wait long to put his name on the score sheet, from a perfectly executed corner, Romeo glanced his header past an easily beaten Morris, to put SYCOB into a deserved lead in the twenty first minute.
Town’s best effort in the first half saw Ross Oulton make progress with a great run into the SYCOB penalty area, skipping past defenders, but his final shot was weak, hitting a defenders body and going out for a corner.
Ryan Blake was presented with yet another chance to chip the Daventry keeper, but again he put his effort well wide. SYCOB were creating plenty of chances, but fortunately for Daventry, their finishing was poor, only managing to convert one effort in the first half.
Daventry Town came out for the second half, determined to improve on their poor first half performance, a free kick from Jamie Gould found the head of Kyle Cartwright, whose fine effort was saved by Sam Southerton. From the resulting Neil King corner kick, Southerton had to parry the ball out for another corner, from under the crossbar!
Anthony Page bought down Ross Oulton in the penalty area in the sixty ninth minute to present Jamie Gould with the Town equaliser, a coolly struck penalty hard to the keepers right, raised the hopes of the travelling Purple Army, briefly!
SYCOB took their lead back within minutes, they ventured out of their own half for the first time in the seventy third minute, a break and shot out on the left from Ryan Blake, appeared to have been saved by Morris, but the ball rolled away from him and scraped just inside his right hand post.
Despite Towns improved display in the second half, there only ever looked to be one winner in this contest, and it was decided in the most unfortunate of incidents.
A first time cross low and hard into the Town penalty area by Daniel Williamson, saw keeper Richard Morris and Captain Guy Sanders collide, with the foot of Sanders slamming the ball into his own net, and leaving Morris badly injured.
A delay of ten minutes, saw Morris replaced in goal by centre back Kyle Cartwright, and Mykel Beckley on as a substitute.
Kyle Cartwright was forced into making a couple of saves between the sticks, juggling the ball with his fists below his crossbar and eventually making an accomplished clearance!
Ryan Howell almost pulled a goal back for Town in the final few minutes, his superb shot hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced down, the wrong side of the goal line.
One point and eight goals conceded in the last three matches, has seen Daventry Town go from a slim hope of a play – off place, to no hope!
