Blake's Heaven!

Blake's Heaven!

JIM DAVIS

Daventry stormed back from the disappointment of their Hillier Cup Final defeat to Corby Town on Tuesday, to extend their unbeaten league run to nine matches, a celebratory hat trick from striker Josh Blake, helping Town to a four goal victory.

Daventry were never really troubled throughout the game, the outstanding Nat Liburd causing all kinds of problems for the Leighton defence down on the right flank, an early shot from Liburd nudging the far post.
Liam Dolman also threaded a lovely ball through to Ashley Robinson, in the 16th minute; his first time shot being comfortably saved by Leighton keeper Matt Griggs.
Town went ahead rather fortuitously, a short cross from Nat Liburd, found Josh Blake whose fine header was deflected by centre back Jakk Pursey, sending his keeper the wrong way, after 20 minutes.
Ashley Robinson forced keeper Griggs into making a save with his legs, a few moments before running with the ball to the by-line, beating several defenders before flicking a shot towards goal which was pushed on to the post, bouncing back into play to safety.
It looked as if Blake would celebrate his second goal in the 25th minute, when another fine cross, found the striker with an empty net in front of him, but somehow the striker managed to put the ball over the crossbar, from five yards out and with the keeper stranded.
A few moments later Blake was in the thick of the action again, this time he was unlucky, having a shot cleared off the line by full back Daniel Hutchins, from a corner.
Dan Hutchins was booked soon after, for what Town players thought was a two footed tackle on Joss Holford, Jamie Gould took the free kick which was deflected past the keepers left post by a defenders body.
Leighton had a clear opportunity to level the score just before half time when winger Jack Downes was put clean though on goal, but his shot was hit wide of the Daventry goal, thumping his shot hard against the perimeter hoardings.
Daventry should have gone in at the interval at least four goals ahead, but they only had the one goal to show for their efforts.
A training ground free kick from Daventry went wildly astray, ending with Joss Holford firing high over the cross bar.
Daventry scored their second in the 52nd minute, Nat Liburd won the ball just inside the Leighton half, pushed the ball out to Ryan Howell on the right, who hit a fine low ball across the area to Josh Blake, who side- footed the ball past the exposed keeper Griggs, for his first goal of the game.
The only real threat from Leighton Town came from right winger Tremayne Charles, several times he created openings for himself and team mates, on one occasion he hit the crossbar, the referee indicating Daventry keeper Richard Morris had saved his shot and awarded a corner kick.
Josh Blake scored his second and Daventry’s third, in the eightieth minute, getting on the end of a Neil King corner.
A number of substitutions took place with about 10 minutes remaining, but it was Josh Blake who celebrated the loudest, completing his hat trick in the eighty seventh minute.
Substitute Yaz Hussein almost scored Towns fifth, but his shot and header both failed to hit the netting.
Leighton centre forward Joel Ayettey put a late header over the bar in the dying embers of the match, one of few Leighton openings in the second half, but it was far to late to stop Daventry registering another victory.
Another convincing victory for Daventry, only one defeat in their last twelve league matches, Championship form in any other season!
Daventry are really on a winning run now, can they extend their unbeaten run to ten matches on Saturday when they play Fleet Town, get down to Communications Park and cheer on the Town in their final home game of the season
