Biography
Supporters of Daventry Town know Tommy Berwick is a prolific goal scorer and needs no introduction, having made his name with the Town early in his career, scoring 52 goals when we romped away with the United Counties League Championship in 2009/10.
This form earned him a move to Nuneaton Town in the summer of 2010, but he didn’t make a competitive appearance for them with manager Kevin Wilkin admitting that due to the form of the club’s other strikers he wasn’t given a fair crack of the whip.
Tommy was loaned back to Daventry early in 2010/11 and when he was released by Nuneaton in October 2010, he returned to Daventry on a permanent deal.
Who can forget season 2010 – 2011?
Tommy Berwick finished the season with 30 league/cup goals, second leading goal scorer in the league to John Frendo of Hitchin Town. Frendo finished with one goal more, as Hitchin beat Daventry Town 2 - 0 in the play - off final, Frendo scoring the opening goal for Hitchin in front of an attendance of 1048.
A very speedy and direct striker, Tommy was snapped up by Leamington Town during the summer of 2011.
He scored 3 goals in 21 appearances for Leamington early in 2011/12 and in December 2011 stepped up to the Blue Square North with Redditch United. Tommy only scored a couple of goals during his spell with Redditch, however, and ended the season back at Daventry Town.
In the summer of 2012 Tom began a second spell with Leamington and was in good form early in the season.
He scored 10 goals in 30 games before being side lined with a shoulder injury and when he was back to full fitness he signed for Stratford Town on a short term loan deal in March, 2013. Leamington ended the season by winning the Southern League Premier Division while Stratford Town were crowned champions of the Midland Alliance.
Last summer Tommy moved to Corby Town in June 2013, coming back to Daventry Town with his new club in the FA Trophy in October. With the score goalless, the deadlock was broken by Tommy ` Grizzly` Berwick, with a sweet strike from the edge of the area, beating keeper Richard Morris, easily at his right hand post.
Applause for the goal came from both Corby and the Daventry supporters, many happy to see Berwick back at the club he served so well. Goals from Ashley Robinson and Tom Lorraine made it an unhappy return!
Tommy left Corby and moved on to Hemel Hempstead briefly in December 2013. Tommy then went on to Stourbridge Town in January 2014, before returning to Daventry for the third time!
