Dearne Valley hosted Garforth on Saturday in their first game for 4 weeks and the lack of match fitness proved to take its toll in the final part of the game.
Dearne conceded early on in the game, but as the hosts started to find their feet a neat kick from Rob Bowling was collected by Ben Dyer who went in to score just wide of the posts. The Bulldogs scored twice more before the break, firstly from John Williams who powered over the line after a period of sustained pressure. This was followed by a second for Dyer after a powerful run from Williams up the middle. The visitors also grabbed a couple of tries to give a half time score of 18-16 to the home side.
The second period had both sides create chances before a break from Chris Palmer, followed by a quick play the ball from the impressive Thomas Senior enabled Robert Bowling to find a way over from close range. Garforth hit back with a try of their own but a strong run from Daniel Beesley had him break the line to score and give the home side an 8 point lead with under 10 minutes on the clock. Bulldogs 1st victory of the season however was not to come as the visitors spoiled the party with a 90 yard interception followed by another long range effort quickly after put them ahead by 4. The Bulldogs managed to get the ball back in the dying minutes to mount a last attempt to snatch the victory but it was in vain leaving the final score 32 -28 to the travelling side.
The men of the match for the Bulldogs were 1, Robert Bowling 2, Ben Dyer 3, Chris Palmer.
