United put in a terrific first 45 minutes with 3 good goals as well having 3 other clear chances. Goal number 1 came when Carl Haines, positioned on the edge of the penalty area directed a looping header from a cross which went over the keepers head and the ball ended in the net. The second came when Danny Tucker pounced on a misplaced pass and with the keeper off his line he lobbed the ball 40 yards over his head and into goal. Mark Wheatley then drove forward before unleashing a shot from 20 yards which gave the keeper no chance to give United a 3-0 interval lead in a half they totally dominated
The second 45 minutes still saw United probably the best of the 2 teams, indeed they hit the frame of the goal twice and fired shots wide when well placed however 2 simple mistakes gave Plough the chance to reduce the arrears to 3-2 and sensing that they might get something from the game they piled forward as the United 45s lost their shape and conceded possession with a number of unforced errors. Keeper Shaun Corrick proved to be the hero during this period being called upon to make numerous saves including 2 very good stops to keep his side ahead, without his efforts the game might have slipped away from United. Right on time they did appear to make the game safe when Carl Haines bagged his second to give the side a 4-2 advantage however right from the restart the Plough bagged another but this proved to be the final action leaving United 4-3 victors.
