Reigning champions Swinton Athletic made the short journey to Conisbrough and promptly went home with the points and a league double over the Reds with a comprehensive 5-0 win.
In truth Swinton were the strongest side for the full 90 minutes and went ahead with the last kick of the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the break though at that stage, while they had been the better side, they probably hadn't done enough to earn a lead, a ball headed across goal to Doxey who turned well and poked the ball home giving them that advantage. A free kick that hit the bar the only other moment of danger to the Reds.
The second period was very different as Athletic totally bossed the 45 minutes, they scored 4 goals, one an own goal by Louis McKie, and might have had a couple more had it not been for a couple of excellent saves by United keeper Kyle Matthews, Nathan Walsh and Enzo Guarini (2) the other men on target. For United, the only effort at goal was an Aiden Oakley shot that was blocked by a defender so even then the keeper had no save to make.
