This will be a game that United keeper Jake Barton will not forget for a long time, first a shaky punch from the custodian sent United a goal down before he injured his fist making a save and had to go off injured as United suffered a 4-0 loss at Sheffield side frecheville.
There was little in the game for the first 35 minutes with neither side doing enough to get their noses in front however a mistake from keeper Barton saw United fall behind, Barton weakly punched the ball up in the air from a corner though he got no distance on the punch, the ball was sent up in the air with Barton racing out to try and retrieve that ball towards the edge of the penalty area when it would have been wiser to stay on his line however he got no contact with the ball and a home player got his head to the ball and nodded it to an empty goal. Jake did make some amends shortly after with a superb save. United responded with Aiden Oakley seeing his shot blocked and Steve Ellor having a shot finger tipped around the post for a corner, from this corner Joe Hayden saw his header kicked off the line.
The home sides second goal early in the second period was the result of a speculative shot which caught Barton flat footed but his afternoon got worse when he got injured after banging his fist against a post while making a save for which he had to be substituted and was later taken to hospital. Unfortunately with a sub keeper taking over Frecheville were to score 2 more giving themselves what on paper looks a convincing 4-0 win but that score line is exceptionally harsh on the Reds who were a lot closer to the hosts than that.
