Hope you like it Derek

We have purchased a memorial bench in memory of Derek Hughes our long serving groundsman which has been paid for by the players, friends of the club and committee members.

As you know Derek, who did so much for Denbigh Town in his 25 years at the club passed away suddenly in December last year after a short illness.

The bench is beautifully crafted and of a high quality teak inscribed " In memory of Derek Hughes our dear friend and groundsman " with a plaque with the same wording.

We invited Derek's sisters Carol and Sheila and brother Peter to call in at Central Park to let us know what they thought.

They were delighted and Sheila said " Can you please pass on the family's heartfelt thanks for the kind and thoughtful donation. The bench is spectacular and will always hold a special place in our hearts. We are so glad Derek will never be forgotten at the ground."

There is a bit of work going on at Central park at the moment during which the bench will find a permanent siting.

Many of us still look for Derek when we first go through the red gates at the club and he is missed every single day.

The bench will be a long lasting tribute of the work he did for Denbigh Town FC as well as a reminder of his life and friendship.

RIP Derek
