Denbigh Secure Transfer of Striker Swarbrick
Former Cefn Druids striker Andrew Swarbrick is the latest addition to the town squad and will make his debut away to Llandudno Junction on Wednesday night.
Andrew is a prolific goalscorer who was spotted by Druids while playing for Chirk AAA where he scored 42 goals in 41 games in the Welsh National League. He was quickly put on to a contract by manager Huw Grifffiths in order to keep him at the club and went on to score 13 goals In his first season in the Cymru Alliance.
A contract extension was signed for the 2011/2012 season where, despite suffering a broken ankle, he scored 17 goals.
Manager Richard Williams-Cooke had this to say about the signing,
“As soon as I knew Swarb was available we moved quickly to secure him and I am thrilled to welcome him to the club. There was interest from Cymru Alliance clubs but he chose to come to us as he is impressed by the set up here and what we want to achieve. We played together for a few games before my retirement at Druids so I know what he is all about. He has lots of pace and can finish with both feet and will fit in perfectly with the way we want to play. He can’t wait to get going and hopefully he will score the goals we need to be successful this year.”
Other team news is that captain Danny Jellicoe and assistant Tom Mutton are both missing due to work commitments. Mark Roberts will miss the game because of a foot injury and Owain Roberts is on his honeymoon. Eddie Maurice-Jones and Mike Hind return to the squad.
Leaving the club are Ian Griffiths who has agreed to sign for rivals Holywell Town and Neil Fisher, who will remain registered and play when needed.
