With a tournament in mid October at Grove we have started to add to our hard work in training by arranging a friendly game at Abingdon.
We had a fantastic turn out of players for our first away fixture, which was started with a joint training session looking at the scrum for the forwards and defensive/attacking lines for the backs.
We then moved on to as game split into three time periods, so that we could look at switching players and trying new things.
Didcot started well with a try almost from kick off. From there the team worked hard to win scrums and spin the ball out wide to increase our chance of breaking through the defence.
The players worked fantastically well as team securing ball and targeting gaps.
In the second and third time periods, players were moved from there preferred positions and we even switched forwards and backs to try new set ups. The main points of the day, were to look at what could be improved and providing a platform for the boys to build rapport and knowledge of each other, with the primary focus being enjoyment.
The boys worked extremely hard and had a good win, as always there are things to improve, with players saying they want to work more on their defensive line and tackling; from a coaching viewpoint, in the last time period fitness was becoming an issue for both teams and this is something that we will add more of to our program.
Well done U13s, looking forward to the Grove festival.
