We are the Junior Touch Team....
We are a team of boys and girls aged 8-13 who play O2 Touch Rugby!
Junior Touch sessions are held at Boundary Park, run by Didcot RUFC coaches for children aged 8 to 13! Sessions run on Wednesday's between 18:00-19:00 at Boundary Park (GWP) during school term time only.
Children aged 14 and above can join our Senior Touch sessions - see our other team pages at Didcot Senior Touch Team
If your child is already a paying subs member of Didcot Rugby Club then the sessions are free. If not, it costs £2 for a session and there are discounts for paying for the whole term up front.
What is Touch?
Touch Rugby, or TOUCH as it is becoming known, is a minimal contact sport that is played throughout the world by men, women and children of all ages and skill levels. Touch appeals to both sports enthusiasts as well as those looking for an ‘alternative way’ of getting or keeping fit through a fun game, which needs only a ball and maybe jumpers for corner flags!
Touch is a fast moving, minimal contact, evasive game similar to rugby union but without the tackling, scrummaging, rucking, mauling, lineouts and kicking. This fast, simple and exciting game promotes the fundamental skills of running, handling, evasion and support play, whilst developing basic principles of attack and defence, without the fear of getting hurt.
The southern hemisphere hugely supports touch, which is no surprise as its roots can be traced back to Australia in the 1960s where it was used as a warm-up game. In England the popularity for Touch has rapidly grown across the country! It is now widely played all over the country in rugby clubs under the RFU's "O2 Touch" programme.
Didcot Rugby Club is an approved RFU O2 Touch Centre and we provide Touch sessions all year round to players from aged 8-88!
Touch is the fastest growing team sport in the UK at the moment - it is really popular with people who want to keep fit in a fun and social way whilst playing a rugby based team sport.
