Daz King7 Feb - 17:24

Four in a row at the Loop for Didcot

Didcot Town produced their best performance of the season to see off play-off-chasing Shaftesbury at the Loop Meadow Stadium.

Two first-half goals from Cam Mills and a second-half goal from JP Nyuysemo secured a 3-0 win and a fourth straight win at home for the railwaymen.

Shaftesbury had a great chance in the opening moments of the game, but a ball into the middle evaded everyone.

Didcot went ahead in the tenth minute from the penalty spot. A good move from Didcot eventually saw Jenson Wright's goalbound effort handled, giving the referee an easy decision of a penalty.

Cam Mills stepped up to give the keeper no chance from the spot.

Shaftesbury had a great chance to level, but Leigh Bedwell did well to deny the attacker with his feet. Didcot broke thanks to some excellent link-up play down the left, with the ball eventually falling to Cam Mills, but his effort was deflected out for a corner.

From the resulting corner, Cam Mills fired home from a tight angle.

Toby Holmes almost brought Shaftesbury back into the game just past the half hour, but his low shot came back off the post. Once again, Didcot broke at pace, and Cam Mills was denied his hat-trick by another block.

Holmes was having an off day in front of goal for Shaftesbury. Their 17-goal leading goalscorer dragged another effort wide after getting in behind the Didcot defence.

Didcot almost made the perfect start to the second half. Jenson Wright seeing his 25-yard effort coming back off the post with the goalkeeper beaten.

Shaftesbury had two great chances in a minute. Holmes again dragged an effort wide, and Adam Learoyd then did well to head off the line.

Leigh Bedwell made another good save with his feet to deny Harry Baker as the visitors looked for a way back into the game.

JP Nyuysemo was played as a makeshift striker with Owen James away, and his hard-working performance was rewarded when he made it 3-0 with just over ten minutes remaining. JP collected the ball on the left; he ghosted past the Shaftesbury defender before calmly picking his spot to score his first league goal of the season.

Didcot almost added a fourth late on. Tyger Hall cut in from the left, and his shot cannoned back off the crossbar.

A great win for Didcot, who secured a fourth straight home win in the process.

Player of the Match - Cam McNeill
So many were in with a chance of the award, but Cam's hard work and constant running forward whilst defending well earned him the award for another consistently solid performance.
