Diddy fall to disappointing loss at North Leigh

There wasn't much festive cheer for Didcot supporters as a good number of them travelled to North Leigh on Boxing Day only to see their team get well beaten by mid table North Leigh.

Didcot made 1 enforced change to their side that drew against Bedford with Liam Talboys coming into the side in place of the injured Jack Longford.

It was the Railwaymen who started the better of the teams, playing up the huge slope at Eynsham Park Diddy knocked the ball around with confidence and created whatever few chances there were in the first 20 minutes. A couple of early corners weren't particularly well dealt with by the North Leigh defence and Seth Humphries fired a shot from 20 yards narrowly over. The best chance fell to George Reid who raced onto a clever through ball and sprinted clear of the last defender, with just the goalkeeper to beat however he placed his right foot shot just wide of the post and it was a chance missed Didcot were made to pay for.

Didcot have struggled all season to score goals especially when they've been on top in games and duly on 25 minutes North Leigh were awarded a soft free kick on the left hand side. Henry Landers floated the ball into the box where former Didcot midfielder Callum McNish had the freedom of the 6 yard box to glance a header beyond Leigh Bedwell to give North Leigh a scarcely deserved lead.

After the opening goal however the hosts settled into their work and the difference between the sides became evident in the second half when North Leigh extended their lead via more good play down the tight hand side by Landers whose centre found a completely unmarked George Seacole who swept home the 2nd goal.

Didcot were reeling and whatever good football they had played in the first 25 minutes was a distant memory, too often playing sideways and backwards and not hurting their comfortable hosts. The Rialwaymen did however make 1 good chance to score when Reid fought his way down the right flank squaring the ball to sub Jack Dark who could only manage to flick his effort at the front post over from no more than 5 yards out. If that had gone in it would have given Didcot 20 minutes to try and salvage the game but as that went over so did Didcot's slim chances.

Almost immediately 2 former Didcot players ended the contest for definite when McNish found himself in the Didcot box and although his shot hit the post it fell perfectly to Lance Williams who drilled a first time excellent shot into the top corner to end whatever was left of the contest.

It was another poor half of football from the Railwaymen which saw them comfortably beaten and they will need to raise their game significantly when Aylesbury Utd make the journey to the Loop Meadow Stadium on New Years Day.
