Bury Away

On a surprising humid day in mid October the 2s ventured north of the ring road to the deepest darkest depths of Bury.

After trips to IKEA and a tour of local cul-de-sac's. The team assembled in the changing room hungry for a win after last weeks missed opportunity.

We headed out to the pitch where keen bean Sophie lead the warmup once again showing off her style and coordination in the grape vine. Tracy put in a few extra stretches before the game having to look after herself more carefully at the ripe old age of 37. A few passes and hits between the team confirmed their assumptions about the pitches north of the ring road. So much so that Bev had to abandon her new snazzy shoes that she'd been parading about in for the last half hour for fear of them having too much grip.

The match started and Bury put on the pressure from the start scoring a goal within the first 5 minutes. Greys kept their heads up and Sophie put away an equaliser after 15 minutes. With play progressing in both ends and the birthday girl spectacularly hitting the post from an open net it was up to our new international Aileen who stepped up to the mark to take us into the lead leaving the score at 2-1 to us by half time.

Riled up from their team talk Bury stepped out and scored an early equaliser in the first few minutes of the second half! Greys kept their heads up and stayed focused which paid off eventually scoring to make the score line 3-2.

With more prosperity from our short corners than last week Sophie managed to sneak a third goal past the keeper widening our lead to 4-2. Aileen then saw an angle no one else would of dared to take and took us to 5-2.

The second half didn't go as swimmingly as the score line suggests with both bad boy rebel halves Pitsy and Liane being carded for back sticks and back chat. Tut tut!

The defence work well throughout with some epic saves from Vicky, interceptions from long armed Millie, blocks from Bevlar and great redistributions back into play from Lydia (maybe not that Aerial tho!) Tiph's spotted the gaps hitting the ball at full speed past the bewildered opposition to the other end of the pitch.

Soph and Tracy worked hard as always in the middle carrying the ball forward and creating chances in the 25.

Luckily a team effort is about supporting each other as well as scoring the goals well at least that's what Kath, Ve and Shandy are telling themselves.

A great team effort and fantastic 2s debuts from Anna who played some great hockey staying strong looking up and always passing the ball back to a purple shirt and 2 goals Alieen - do I need to say any more? #player

Coach Aasim seemed like a proud father on the sidelines ... or maybe that was just his bad dad jokes ...

Pleased with a solid win we decided to head to the pub. Shandy informed us she didn't need to be back to cook tea for another hour so would be joining us too. But where to go? Luckily Tiph was on hand as our encyclopaedia of near by drinking holes to inform us of the nearest pub. Bury confirmed our intel and we headed back to their club house for curry and chips which would of been a perfect end to a great game had someone not dropped the spoon in the curry sauce #donkey.
Bring on next Saturday!
