DINGS picked up their second win in a row, but they were pushed all the way by their Midlands-based opponents. Both sides tried to play with width, pace and dynamism, but excellent defensive performances kept the scoreline down.
It was 25-minutes before the deadlock was broken, and it needed something pretty special to open the scoring. Crusaders’ fly-half Ben Bolster picked a pass up from his boot laces, side stepped his opposite number, chipped over the final defender before re-gathering to dot down under the posts for a try he also converted.
Dings moved 10-0 up after 53-minutes with another Bolster shot from the kicking tee, but the Bees hit back immediately with a three-pointer from Jack Jolly a minute later.
The Bees launched another promising attack only for Dings wing Josh Trinham to nip in and break clear. Trisham was chased down but flicked a lovely pass out the back to centre Matt Smith, who just about had enough gas to make it to the line for an unconverted try that gave his side a 15-3 advantage on 59-minutes.
The visitors battled back, though, with prop Adam Nunney barging over closed to the uprights for a try converted by Jolly that earned the Bees a well-deserved bonus-point in defeat.
