Phoenix search for that elusive first win of the season goes on, and with the season now half way through they still sit at the bottom of Regional Two North East with just two points to show for their efforts so far.
An away game at Wetherby was always going to be a difficult outing but again wasn't helped with continued injuries and unavailability - meaning a young, inexperienced side took to the field.
The home side opened up with early scores but the Phoenix pack punched above their weight, especially David Moores, Ben Sengelow and Max Hayes putting in shift and were rewarded with two penalty tries for their efforts.
Wetherby cut loose on a couple of occasions and with some good tries lead 49-14 at the break.
The second period was a much tighter affair with the home side taking it 12-5 -- winger Luke Bayliss got over for a try for Phoenix -- but the final score of 61-19 was a tough one to take again for the visitors.
But, onward and upward -- Pontefract away next Saturday - always a good game, as we start the second batch of league fixtures for the season.
