Stirling University 1
Doune Castle 3
For the second successive week, Doune had to overcome a first-half deficit to secure the points.
Doune offered their first real threat after 12 minutes. Alan Inglis connected with a long throw from Lukasz Duszynski, but saw his header gathered comfortably by the University keeper.
4 minutes later, Doune carved open the home defence with a sweeping move down the left flank.
Andy Mann linked well with Alan Inglis who did well to release Lukasz Duszynski. Duszynski outpaced the full back before drilling a low ball across goal. The keeper again did well, diving low to smother the cross.
On 20 minutes, the same trio worked their way down the left. Alan Inglis sent Lukasz Duszynski free inside the area with a neat back-heel. Duszynski squared to Sean Wilbert, but he was unable to get the ball under proper control and the opportunity passed.
Alan Inglis forced another save with a strong header from 10 yards before Doune spurned another decent chance on 27 minutes.
Lukasz Duszynski sped clear from deep and raced into the area. He cushioned a pass inside to Niall McClure who had burst forward in support. A goal seemed inevitable, but McClure miscued his attempt, allowing a defender to hack clear.
After dominating the opening period, Doune found themselves behind after 40 minutes.
Murray Docherty looked to usher a long ball over the defence back to keeper Davison. The ball bounced awkwardly off the artificial surface and struck Docherty around waist level. From some distance away, the referee judged that to be a deliberate handball and awarded the penalty.
Stirling converted the spot kick to make it 1-0, a lead they held to the break.
After 50 minutes, Robbie Hurst intercepted an attempted clearance from the University keeper. Hurst drove into the right side of the area, but saw his low drive zip wide of the far post.
2 minutes later, Robbie Hurst passed inside to Lukasz Duszynski. His drive from 30 yards skipped across the surface and forced a fine save from the keeper. He dived full-length to push the ball round for a corner.
After 54 minutes, Callum Davison made a smart save, diving to his right to push away a fierce strike from distance.
2 minutes later, Alan Inglis slipped the ball forward to send Niall McClure clear. McClure surged into the box, but his early strike lacked power and the keeper saved comfortably.
Ryan Meldrum had a shot saved before Doune equalised after 63 minutes.
Alan Inglis held off his marker on the right before cutting the ball back to Lukasz Duszynski. 12 yards out, Duszynski swivelled to stab a first-time drive high into the net for 1-1.
Doune were in complete control. It was no surprise when they edged 2-1 ahead after 70 minutes.
Lukasz Duszynski angled a corner back to the edge of the box to debutant Christopher Macdonald.
Macdonald skilfully took the ball first-time and cushioned a precise side-foot shot towards the right-hand post. A quick-thinking dummy from Alan Inglis allowed Macdonald’s shot to fly into the net off the upright.
Doune peppered the University goal and edged further ahead after 73 minutes.
Lukasz Duszynski drilled a corner from the left to the back post. Murray Docherty made a late run to smash a first-time volley high into the net from 4 yards to make it 3-1 and secure a thoroughly deserved Castle win.
