Kilsyth V Doune Castle (First Division 01/02/2020)

Kilsyth 3
Doune Castle 5

Doune won more convincingly than the score-line suggests. An unwelcome combination of missed chances and defensive carelessness meant the home side remained in the contest till the final whistle.

Christopher Macdonald broke clear early, on but the strong wind forced the ball wide to deny him the opportunity to turn the ball home.

Doune edged 1-0 ahead on 6 minutes with a wonderful goal.

Alan Inglis won possession in midfield and directed a precise ball wide to Sean Wilbert. Wilbert attacked down the right flank before angling a low ball across the face of the goal. Lukasz Duszynski darted forward to stab the ball home from 6 yards.

Lukasz Duszynski combined smartly with Alan Inglis to break clear inside the Kilsyth half. Inglis curled the ball over the home backline to release Robbie Hurst. Hurst cut inside, but his curling effort lacked power and the keeper gathered easily.

Christopher Macdonald was felled 25-yards out. Alan Inglis curled the ball over the defensive wall. The keeper dived low to his right to hold.

Andrew Gibson prised open the Kilsyth defence with a marvellous cross-field pass to Christopher Macdonald. Macdonald hit the bye-line before rifling an inviting ball away from the keeper and across the face of the goal. No Doune player could take advantage.

Against the run of play, Kilsyth drew level after 19 minutes.

The home forward won a challenge to create the shooting chance. From 25 yards, he drilled a dipping shot that beat Callum Davison low to his right for 1-1.

On 20 minutes, the ball broke to Robbie Hurst at the edge of a crowded area. Hurst snatched at his shot and skewed his shot wide of the right-hand post.

Kilsyth used the wind to their advantage and twice came close in as many minutes. Callum Davison did well to hold a fierce 25-yard drive before a Kilsyth player headed over from close range.

Doune should have regained the lead on 28 minutes.

Christopher Macdonald saw his 23-yard free kick crash off the face of the crossbar. The ball rebounded to Lukasz Duszynski. Duszynski struck the ball cleanly, but saw his effort hit the top of the bar and fly over.

On 31 minutes, Christopher Macdonald showed great determination to harry the keeper as he looked to launch a long ball forward. The ball spun high into the air. It fell to Lukasz Duszynski on the edge of the area. Duszynski whipped an impressive first-time volley that dipped inches over with the keeper rooted.

Doune made it 2-1 on 32 minutes.

Alan Inglis found Lukasz Duszynski with a disguised pass out wide. Duszynski cut the ball back towards the penalty spot. Christopher Macdonald brought the ball under control then stroked a lovely finish into the right-hand corner.

Robbie Hurst made it 3-1 after 36 minutes.

Alan Inglis was the architect with a deft ball forward that sent Hurst through one-on-one with the keeper. Hurst calmly dinked the ball over the advancing keeper and followed up to make sure the ball nestled into the corner.

Alan Inglis saw his dipping volley fly inches over as Doune finished the first half very much in control.

Christopher Macdonald missed a great chance to extend the Castle lead after 48 minutes. Alan Inglis held of his marker before hammering a low ball across the face of the goal. Macdonald miscued his effort and sent his shot wide from only a yard out.

After 57 minutes, Sean Wilbert cut the ball back to Ross Macfarlane. Macfarlane’s cross to the near post found Lukasz Duszynski. The keeper did just enough to force Duszynski wide.

Again, against the run of play, on 58 minutes Kilsyth brought themselves back into the game.

They attacked down the Castle left and curled the ball towards the back post. Astonishingly, the ball eluded the Castle defence and deceived Callum Davison who could only watch as the ball ended in the net for 3-2.

Doune recovered quickly and edged further ahead on 64 minutes.

Alan Inglis sent Robbie Hurst clear on goal with the deftest of touches just inside the Kilsyth half. Hurst sped clear of the defence, calmly rounded the advancing keeper and turned the ball home from 8 yards for 4-2.

Alan Inglis almost scored a remarkable goal after 67 minutes. The Castle forward latched onto a loose ball and unleashed a powerful dipping volley from all of 40 yards. The Kilsyth keeper reacted instinctively to touch the effort over the bar with a brilliant stop.

Doune sealed the win with a fifth goal after 75 minutes.

Lukasz Duszynski was hauled to the floor with a double-footed challenge for a clear penalty. Duszynski took the kick himself. He sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 5-2.

To their credit, Kilsyth continued to battle. They pulled another one back after 81 minutes. The Doune defence failed to clear, leaving a simple back post finish to make it 5-3.

Doune refused to panic. They controlled possession in the closing stages to record another important away win.
