A much changed team were punished for a sluggish opening half an hour when Meridian cut through the middle to take a 1-0 lead. Drummond then began to find their feet in the game, with Tayler Mott heading home from a corner shortly before the break. A few minutes of solid pressure followed, with the Meridian keeper making two good saves before the half time whistle prevented any further damage.
Drummond were unable to take the momentum into the second half and controversy arrived around the hour mark, when a Meridian forward fell to ground despite the apparent absence of any contact. Much to the amazement of many, the referee pointed to the spot and the Meridian striker, still chuckling away to himself, cooly converted the penalty.
With time ticking away, Tayler Mott slotted home to level the game at 2-2 and set the game up for its dramatic finale. It came when the ball was flicked towards the back post and met by the debutant Duaine Nwadikwa who hammered the ball home to claim a vital three points.
