Dulwich Hamlet were knocked out of the League Cup after sharing the spoils with Ashford

Goals from Saskia Philp and Jo Gibson were not enough to save Dulwich from dropping out of this season’s League Cup.

Dulwich took the lead in the first half through Philp, after good work by Michaella Williams at right back to create the opening. However, Ashford soon equalised with a long range effort from outside the box by Alissa Down.

Philp was involved again as Dulwich were able to retake the lead just before the break. She closed down the Ashford goal kick and squared it to Jo Gibson to score her third goal in two games. Goalkeeper Marie Louis made an excellent save to deny Ashford shortly after.

In the second half, Ashford were able to equalise through a bundled in corner and then went 3-2 up after following in from a freekick.

Dulwich manager Ryan Dempsey utilised his bench and after bringing on some substitutes was able to energise the side. With ten minutes to go, an Ashford defender headed in Havana McElvaine’s corner and the game finished 3-3.

Despite the draw, the result means Dulwich do not have enough points to qualify from the League Cup group stage.
