Last weekend’s win against Eastbourne put a smile on the face of many Dulwich fans. Saturday’s result saw Dulwich go the furthest they have been in the FA Cup for 19 years – many are already dreaming of us being in the hat for the 1st Round proper.
For one young fan, the day will forever be cherished for very different reasons. On Saturday Nico, along with his brother Sami, led out the teams at Champion Hill. Nico, aged six, is a massive Dulwich Hamlet fan and has a soft spot for our very own super striker Danny Mills. A few weeks ago, Nico’s aunt tweeted a picture Nico had drawn of this hero.
This tweet was picked up by the club’s social media channels and resulted in Danny Mills sending a personal message to Nico inviting him to the game on Saturday.
Saturday came and Nico arrived at Champion Hill with great anticipation and grin across his face. He was given the chance to meet his hero and walk hand in hand with him onto the pitch. When asked about his day, Nico simply replied, “It was the best day ever!”
This heart-warming story is why we are proud to be fully inclusive community club. Not only have we been able to give a young fan an incredibly memorable experience but we might have just inspired a fan of the future. We’d like to thank everyone who was involved in making Nico’s day so special. A special mention for Danny Mills and the rest of the players for taking the time to making the dreams of a young fan dream come true.
Dulwich Hamlet is proud of its mascot scheme – we never charge for the experience as we believe every child should have the opportunity to be part of their local football club. If you know of a child who would like to walk out at Champion Hill with their hero, please get in touch via email: firstname.lastname@example.org or Twitter: @DHFC_Community.
