Dulwich secure another home victory in the league - although the game was stopped four minutes before time due to injury

Goals from Sarah Milner and Saskia Philp helped Dulwich to a 2-0 win over Eastbourne Town on Sunday in front of a record crowd of 312 at Champion Hill. However, the game was abandoned in the 86th minute following an injury to an Eastbourne player. Officials agreed that the result would still stand.

Milner opened the scoring in the first half with a well-taken header, getting on the end of captain Rosie Stone’s cross. Dulwich doubled their lead shortly after, with Saskia Philp sticking the ball right in the bottom corner, well beyond the keeper’s reach.

Dulwich continued to dominate the proceedings and were comfortable to keep possession through the second half. Unfortunately, late on an Eastbourne player collapsed on the pitch and the referee and managers agreed that the best course of action was to end the game there. Thankfully, we understand from Eastbourne that she is recovering well.

Extra credit should go to our goalscorer Sarah Milner, who remained on the pitch and helped tend to her opponent until she was able to be stretchered off.

Speaking after the game, coach Ryan Dempsey said, “I was very pleased with the performance. The old cliche of a game of two halves. We controlled the game very well in the first half and although we didn’t create lots of clear cut chances, we kept the ball well in the first two thirds of the pitch.”

“The second half we had to battle a little bit more as Eastbourne Town remained in compact shape and we choose to keep trying to play through the middle of the pitch, I would have liked us to play quicker as individuals, units and a team but I’m very pleased with the clean sheet.”

The result sees Dulwich maintain their place at the top of the London & South East Regional Women's Premier. Next Sunday’s fixture away to Dartford has been postponed.

Following Sunday’s record crowd of 312, we would also like to remind fans that the next home game is Sunday 17th November against Haringey Borough at 2pm in the Capital Women's Cup.
