The Good, the Bad and the Ugly…
OK, let’s not try and sugar coat it. September wasn’t a great success. There wasn’t much in the way of good in the Vanarama National League South but in the FA Cup there was a lot to love. Maybe it’s Hamlet’s year!
The high point?
The 6-1 thrashing of Bognor saw the side produce exactly what the fans know they can. It felt like the first four weeks of the season again - here’s to the next round!
What about the rest in September?
Hamlet weren’t alone. Eastbourne and Oxford also couldn’t manage a win last month. The team of the month were Slough Town thanks to their four Vanarama National League South wins in a row. Three other sides were superb - Braintree, Weymouth and Dorking. They all took ten points from a possible 12.
The month’s star man…
Captain David Ijaha very rarely deserves to be on the losing side. If only his goal at Chippenham would have turned out to be the winner.
Dulwich fans don’t really do doom and gloom. Don’t forget, the team are three places better off than this time a year ago - and they’ve scored five more goals.
How do things compare to last September?
They don’t compare well! The side pulled their socks up last September after a difficult August you may remember - they took seven points as they won at Woking, against Chippenham and against Tonbridge in the FA Cup.
Knew we would find some positives! Two 1,600+ gates against Maidstone and Bognor in the cup were either side of a very impressive 2,071 against Hungerford. With an average of 1,707, Hamlet are the second best supported club in the division at the moment.
What does October look like?
We won’t lie to you, it’s a tricky old month of Vanarama National League South fixtures. Nobody wants to play Havant or Weymouth right now - but at least they know they will be in for games at Champion Hill. Chelmsford City on their own patch is always demanding as well.
While we’ve got you, we would love you to….
