The club is delighted to welcome back former player Damian Scannell back to Champion Hill as he takes on a new role as Performance Lead.
Eagle-eyed fans may have spotted Damian amongst the staff on the bench for our dramatic win against Hampton and Richmond Borough at the weekend.
The 37-year-old had two spells with the Hamlet, firstly on loan from Fisher Athletic in 2007, before spending the whole of the 2015-16 campaign with us. Damian scored twice on his debut that season against Canvey Island, and went on to net eight goals in 50 appearances, his last game coming as a substitute in the playoff final at East Thurrock United.
He has had great success since retiring from the game in creating SuperDads, a fitness programme for men looking to lose weight, with emphasis too on helping clients to feel good mentally as well as physically, and to see life in as positive a way as possible.
Damian is someone who aligns with the club's values and vision of how football and players should be developed, supported and evolved. Off the pitch, helping players keep a focus and balance between personal and professional lives, along with providing all the support and tools to give them the best chance to perform on the pitch.
Manager Paul Barnes has expressed his excitement about the opportunity, having tried to work with Damian at previous jobs, with the timing now perfect for both parties. He said, “Damian is someone who I have great admiration for, his passion for life, people and being the best you can, is something that gives so many purpose and motivates on so many levels."
"As a professional he has been through the journey of professional football and into non-league football, so can add real value to our players and environment, then add in his ability to get athletes to perform, we are getting ourselves one of the top performance coaches around."
"Damo and I are already working on something pretty special that we feel will help evolve non-league football to a new level, exciting times for everyone associated to Dulwich Hamlet Football Club, I can’t wait to get working together and implementing new ideas and systems to help our team/players performance.”
Welcome back Damo, it will be great to see that infectious smile again!
