The following Tuesday, Dulwich Hamlet made the short journey to meet Ryman South Greenwich Borough in the Second Round of the Alan Turvey Trophy (Ryman League Cup). Boosted by two early goals, the Hamlet progress by dint of a 2-1 win against a youthful Boro’ side who, to their credit, fought back well in the second half.
Dulwich Hamlet started the game on the front foot and opened the scoring as early as the 10th minute. Kadell Daniel crossed low from the left and Roman Michael-Percil, unmarked at the back post, slammed the ball into the roof of the net. Dulwich then doubled their lead just two minutes later. A neat pass from Gavin Tomlin set Roman Michael-Percil down the right and the winger pulled the ball back for Danny Carr to steer home from 15 yards off the inside of the far post. Dulwich Hamlet continued to call the tunes for the remainder of the half but Boro’ threatened occasionally on the break, especially when dangerman Mohammed Eisa was on the ball. After having one penalty claim rejected Greenwich Borough were a spot kick on the half-hour mark. However, Preston Edwards came to the rescue of the Hamlet, diving low to his right to beat away Eisa’s penalty. Two minutes before halftime, Dulwich Hamlet almost had a third goal when a terrific 25-yard shot from Kadell Daniel struck the underside of the bar and bounced back into play.
Greenwich came more into the game after the interval and eventually reduced the arrears in the 73rd minute. Preston Edwards tried to play the ball out from the back, but passed it straight to Boro’ skipper Jake Britnell who gratefully accepted the gift, slotting in from 10 yards out. This only succeeded in stirring the Hamlet into action once more and during the closing stages Dulwich went close to increasing their lead on several occasions. Gavin Tomlin hit a rising shot narrowly over the crossbar. Boro’ ‘keeper Rhys Hughes magnificently tipped over a goal-bound header from Danny Carr. Nathan Green had a header cleared off the goal line and, in the dying seconds, Hughes turned behind a fierce drive from Danny Carr. Following the win Dulwich Hamlet now entertain Faversham Town in the next round, the Kent side having beaten Hastings United on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
