S1s battle well-organised Perthshire team in poor conditions

Dunfermline S1s travelled back up to Perth, following a switch of venue due to unplayable conditions at McKane Park.
With conditions poor at the start of this match, steadily getting worse as the game went on, both teams deserve credit for attempting to play expansive rugby. Perthshire astutely mixed a passing game with kicking for territory, which Dunfermline struggled with from the start, conceding early tries due to a lack of covering support.
However, we played well with ball in hand and responded with a couple of converted tries, going into the break 10-8 down, and with all to play for.
In the second period, Perthshire's defence managed to pressurise us, forcing mistakes from a Dunfermline attack which was too eager to try and keep passing the ball out of trouble. A good lesson for the boys, who will now realise that there are times to take the ball forward into contact and reset, especially on wet days. Some good rugby, with a notable performance from new-start Cameron, who showed a good turn of pace and composure in contact. However we were unable to add to our tally, and conceded two more tries for a final score of 16 - 8 to Perthshire.
A further third development period, played in worsening conditions, saw Perthshire play smartly and put boot to ball with the wind at their backs. This kept us pegged back in our own half, and Perthshire scored three further tries.

Well done to Perthshire who coped with the conditions better than we did. It's a learning experience, and we haven't had to deal with a kicking game like this before. With this experience we'll improve our decision making and our execution, but we also need to ensure that the effort levels are kept up across the team, and that everyone works hard to support their team-mates, both in defence and in attack.
