An update from our Chairman in light of the current pandemic situation.

I hope all members of the DCRFC family are coping with the challenges the pandemic brings to us all.

The current situation does allow training to take place within the guidance, moving to Stage E on the RFU’s Roadmap. Our Return to Rugby working group have examined the detail and training for all is restarting this weekend, subject to the usual weather and pitch conditions. This is a welcome return for many, although we also recognise that many members will be restricting their contact with others as much as possible in the run up to the Christmas bubble window.

The operation of the clubhouse is under Tier 3 restrictions, which means we remain closed for all social activities. The government review scheduled for 16 December will inform us all with regard to the way forward. However, a shift to Tier 2 will remain very restrictive, dictating that we can only operate as if a restaurant, ie individual household groups only, seated 2m apart, full table service and alcohol only served with substantial meals. Sadly, the DCRFC family will not be able to enjoy their home in anything like a normal manner.

Having considered this within the bigger picture and our ability to provide a safe and enjoyable experience, the Executive Committee has made the difficult decision not to consider re-opening the clubhouse until the following government review, expected after the Christmas window.

I regret having to take this decision, which means our usual festive activities - annual Carol Singing evening, Bubbly Party and fun family rugby day on Boxing Day – will not take place this year. I share your disappointment but fully support the decision taken, and we will look ahead to a time when we can re-introduce similar activities in 2021. Boxing Day in May perhaps ?!

Thank you to those of you who have supported our #FlyingHigh campaign which has demonstrated the love and affection for our club from across all sections and age groups as well as former members and the wider community.

Have a safe and enjoyable Christmas, we look forward to brighter times in the New Year.
