We are deeply saddened to share the news that club stalwart, Barry Smith, passed away recently. Barry played rugby for Kings College 1st XV in Senior Rugby in Northumberland before coming to City. Unfortunately he found himself understudy Hooker to Stan Hodgson at both Club and County level but like the rest of his family was blue and gold through and through, opting to play for our Saracens rather than one of the many clubs who tried to snap him up for their 1st XV. A lifelong member of our club, Barry went on to be a very active committee man, running legendary social evenings as Social Secretary and selector travelling with teams. Our thoughts are very much with Barry's siblings, Ian and Mary, wife Hilary and the rest of the family. We will be saying goodbye to Barry on Monday 12 May at 1.30pm at St Mary Magdalene, Belmont followed by Durham Crematorium, and afterwards at Durham City RFC..
