Durham City can have no complaints about this defeat at the hands of a good Penrith side who, after the opening 5 minutes, controlled for the rest of the match to eventually score 7 tries and register a big victory.

City started well, winger Bradley Pears going over in the right corner for a try after slick handling by the backs with winger Garry Izomor and full-back Sam Heron in the line had creating an overlap following a lineout on the other side.

But it was downhill from there as the home side made light of playing into the wind, dominated possession and forced City to defend for the rest of the first half. Stand-off Fearon reduced the arrears with a simple penalty after quarter of an hour and when winger Fell scored as they attacked on the right, converted to grab the lead at 10 – 5.

A penalty by City stand-off Charlie Scott after half an hour gave City hope, but Penrith consolidated on the stroke of half-time, a quickly-taken penalty 7 metres out giving centre Allinson the chance to score and, with Fearon converting, they stretched their lead to 17 – 8.

With City picking up injuries and visibly fading after their first-half defensive efforts, the home side then took advantage of every City kicking and handling error to add 5 second-half tries.

Turnover ball on half-way allowed Fell to run on the right and his counterpart Littleton took an inside pass for the first 2 minutes into the second period, scrum-half Swale dived over from a ruck on the City line, flanker Stephens drove over from a 5 metre scrum, Fell got his second of the match when City seemed certain to score only to lose the ball near the home line and then see Penrith full-back McNaughton race 75 metres to put the winger in, and finally, Littleton matched his winger partner getting his second try when he scored in the left corner after good phase play.

With Fearon converting 3 of their second-half efforts and adding a second penalty, the home side finished well-deserved winners.
