Durham City U7's 90 v's 90 Darlington Mowden Park U7's
Whinney Hill
On the first Sunday of October City had fifteen enthusiastic U7's, the majority of whom were palying in their first ever TAG rugby matches, so it was a nervous start for the players and referees alike. The players looked fantastic in their new kit and it was great to see so much home support.
The players were split into two squads and played a total of four games agains a similar number of Darlington Mowden Park players. The games were played to the RFU Pilot Study rules with 4 players per side and redcued size pitches with the emphasis on keeping the game moving wihtout stoppages for knock ons.
The teamwork and individual performances of the City players were was absolutely brilliant and the coaches were delighted that we were able to apply the passing, running and tagging skils that we had been learning in training sessions during September. Every player managed to score at least once in each game. All the players ran with the ball with huge determination and the try saving tagging was equally impressive. All the games were tightly contested and with both sides scoring so many tries and there being so many rolling substitutions it was hard to keep count so all the fixtures were deemed draws!
A very enjoyable experience and well done to all involved - a big thankyou to DMP for contribtuing equally to a great first fixture of the season.
The City players were: William Ashforth, Ben Cordwell-Smith, William Dracup, Ethan Dobson, Mark Dyer, Harrison Girot, Terry Hart, Bradley Jobling, Brandon Lighten, Sam Mason, Matthew Paine, Kye Patterson, Joseph Taylor, George Townsley, Louis Watting.
