Acklam RFC v Durham City RFC v Billingham RFC
Billingham RFC 0 – 20 Durham City RFC
Durham City Blues: Max Blackbourne, David Barnett, Jonny Bushnell, James Bowmen, Owen Chaplin, Owen Thomas, Will Tomlinson, David Gardiner, Tom Hetherington.
With opposition from both Acklam and Billingham available for the first game since Middlesbrough almost a month before, it was great to get some rugby played on grass at last, although restricted space meant the pitch was too narrow for this age group. City’s Blue squad played a spirited Billingham, and in a hard fought contest, City Blues came out on top. A good team performance with lots of support play, particularly from Max Blackbourne, David Barnett and Owen Thomas, resulted in a 10-0 lead at half time. Despite continued hard tackling and resistance at the breakdown, City were too strong. with a further two tries on the second half, and fantastic defence from Will Tomlinson and David Gardiner to ensure Billingham didn’t cross the City try line.
Tries: Tom Hetherington, James Bowmen, Jonny Bushnell, Owen Chaplin
Acklam RFC 0 – 20 Durham City RFC
Durham City Golds: Jared Warby, Niall Butler, Alfie Forbes, Ben Speight, Felix Hawes, Nick Marsden, Matthew Ward, Louie Groark, Mark Humphries.
Although Acklam are a new team this season, they played with a huge amount of passion and courage and made a great game for the Golds squad. However, great teamwork and individual contributions from Felix, Jared, Mark and Matthew resulted in another win for City. Again, superb support play from the whole team with special mentions for Ben, Alfie and Nick resulted in a great game of rugby enjoyed by players and spectators alike.
Tries: Niall Butler x 2, Louie Groark x 2
