Ealing girls on form in U19 League

Ealing girls on form in U19 League

Paul Bray21 Oct 2017 - 16:56

In round #2 of the South East 1 League, Ealing confirmed their position at the top with 2 convincing victories over Cambridge (16-9) and Essex (15-2).

Ealing U19 girls played their best game of the season so far against a full strength Cambridge and with 6 different players on the score sheet. Both the defence and the attack were much more dynamic than in the first round, with the backs in particular making more efforts to break through the line of defence. Great defence was key to the win against Cambridge who had earlier easily beaten Essex and Elly Stonebridge was once again outstanding in the heart of the defence, mitigating the threat of Cambridge’s best player Storm. Elly, Klaudia Las and Zoé Lacour were in fine shooting form and were ably backed up by Gaia Goldberg Litvin.

In the match against Essex, Ealing took a bit of time to get going and match the performance from the first match but gained control after 10 mins and ran out comfortable winners and coach Mel Chowns was able to give the whole squad a good amount of court time to gain further experience. Mel said after the two matches : ‘ I am really pleased with how the whole team played today, particularly against a very strong Cambridge side. There were less technical mistakes and much more drive and commitment to score than in the first round and the defence worked really well together for most of the day. I think we all enjoyed that!”

Very well done to the team: Akira (1), Cola (1), Elly (9), Eme, Gaia (3), Hallie, Ines, Klaudia (8), Zoé (9).

The next round is on Sunday 19 November.
