Earlsdon get off to a winning start
Earlsdon RFC U17's welcome Pinley RFC 16/17's mix , as a massive saver to being let down by two clubs for calling off games.
Big Thanks to Pinley for coming over to us to get the lads a run out , added to what started as a very miserable looking morning , the Autumn sun decided to pay us a visit just before kick off , so everyone had smiles on faces and were ready for battle to commence .
From the kick off , the red and white boys knew they were in for a sharper game than previous seasons , with some ferocious tackles coming in from a very sturdy Pinley D line , which was not budging an inch . that was until about 20 min's into the first half, when a gap out wide opened up and we attacked into Pinley territory and set some good phase play for a few minutes until a penalty was awarded for offside. A gentle tap to the corner and a lineout was the option , from the ensuing driving maul over the white wash the referee's hand went up to award the try . Who was it was the voices from the stands , and a jubilant captain Joe with his hands in the , to which the reply from his parents was "I missed it , do it again" lol. Anyway after this try, it would seem the heart rates settled, and Earlsdon started to string together some of their phases they have been working hard on in pre season training, which lead to gaps in the back line , and some great running lines from the backs coupled with good breakdown work from the forwards , which in turn lead to more line breaks and a few more tries.
However the visiting squad did not give up and tackled hard and rucked very well turning over some ball for them to run at us with, which kept us on the back foot for periods of the game and resulted in a high penalty count and two yellow cards either side of the half time break.
much of the same in the second half, Earlsdon finding some gaps and using their pace to dot down over the line. but Pinley's determination nearly paid off, but for a last ditch tackle into touch , that was bought back for yet another offside. Pinley opted for the lineout , which was perfectly punted into the corner for a 5 meter lineout for the visitors, which was gathered by their jumper, and a maul set. this lead to about 5 minutes of pressure on our own line , which Earlsdon responded to with some aggressive defence which lead to spilled ball and a turn over.
Massive thank you to Pinley for the game , and we will see you next week , their boys were a credit to the game of Rugby and played with passion and heart all game and never let up.
