Craig Hennis scored a brace for the Colliers, with Brad Hird and Chris Trewick also on the scoresheet.
Easington manager Olly Hotchkiss made a few changes from Tuesday’s defeat at Thornaby with John Anderson, Brad Hird, Liam Noble, Thomas Bott and Dylan Elliott all returning to the starting eleven.
Upon kick-off, it was a very quiet start on a difficult pitch. Put simply, nothing happened in the opening 15 minutes.
The first half chance fell to Easington captain Elliott in the 16th minute, but his shot was narrowly too high.
With the first real chance, in the 33rd minute, the deadlock was broken. Elliott’s wide free-kick from the left bypassed a few bodies before finding Hennis at the back post, and his first time effort from a tight angle put the Colliers ahead.
Six minutes later, Hennis collected his and Easington’s second. Noble played a quick ball down the left to release Hird, and he chipped a cross into the area where Hennis guided a header into the net.
Lewis Orrell shot harmlessly wide for Benfield towards the end of the half, but they rarely threatened.
Hird had a good chance for the Colliers 30 seconds into the second half, and then he scored his goal in the 54th minute. Keaton Marr’s long ball bounced through the Hird who cut in before finishing well.
Elliott and Liam Adamson both tried their luck as the Colliers continued to enjoy themselves, before all of Easington’s five substitutes were introduced to the game.
In the 78th minute, Trewick scored the Green Army’s fourth. Liam Wright curled a lovely free-kick into the penalty area, and Trewick glanced a header into the bottom corner.
Marrs was forced into his only save of the game in added time, but the clean sheet was never threatened, and it was a very good afternoon for the Colliers.
The result guarantees Easington a top 10 finish, and it’s quite likely to be a top nine finish with one game left at home to Marske next weekend.
