Following changes to the Saturday sections, the club will also have new management in place at Veterans level for the 2019/20 season. This comes after Will Ineson stepped down, having operated as secretary/manager of the ‘Awd Ezzies’ since their inception.
Daniel Campbell and Steve Ward will oversee matters going forward, assisted by Iain McNaught. The changes were ratified at the club’s monthly management committee meeting held last Monday. Best wishes are extended to the incoming trio, with thanks expressed to Will for his efforts over the past four seasons.
The changes at Vets level now means there is a new look and feel to all three teams operating under the Easington United banner.
Meanwhile plans for the coming campaign continue to take shape, with Easington teams having competed at 6-a-side tournaments at Hedon and Hornsea in recent weeks.
The First Team pre-season schedule was confirmed last week and begins on Tuesday, July 23 when Harchester United visit Low Farm (7pm). Ahead of this first game, Danny Blount’s squad begin training next Tuesday at Low Farm, with Thursday’s follow-up session at Hull’s East Park, which is being billed as an “open trial” for new players. Both sessions start at 6.30pm.
The Reserves have added another fixture to their pre-season schedule. On Friday August 30, Roos come to Low Farm to contest the Barney Moverley Memorial Trophy (6.30pm). Arrangements are also taking shape for the annual Andy Martin Memorial fixture, with at least three other games currently in the pipeline. In the meantime, training sessions for the new-look Stiffs side continue to be held on Mondays at Low Farm (6.30pm).
Player-wise, while several new faces have been down training, the club said goodbye to one of its stalwarts of recent years with the departure of Ben Akam. Fittingly, before he left chairman Doug Clubley managed to catch up with the Stiffs skipper and present him with the two awards he won at the recent presentation night – Reserve team Supporters Player of the Year and the Clubman Award (pictured). The committee extend their best wishes to Ben for the future after a decade of making the round-trip from Hull to play his football at Low Farm.
In the final piece of news, the club were delighted to learn that the aforementioned chairman will become the second of its members to receive an FA Order of Merit award for 50 years or more service as a volunteer. Secretary Judy Sugden received similar recognition when celebrating her half-century in post back in 2017. For Doug the award marks the second time he’s been recognised by the East Riding County FA. Named their ‘Volunteer of the Year’ in 2012/13, Doug is about to embark on his 57th season with Easington United having first joined as player in 1962. He is set to receive the award at an event on Saturday, July 13.
Easington United AFC are again on the look-out for various sponsors to help them through the coming campaign. In particular, the Reserves are in need of a new kit sponsor. Elsewhere, pitch-side advertising boards are up for grabs, while match and player sponsorship for the season is again available.
