Struggling Hall Road Rangers Reserves are tomorrow’s visitors to Low Farm in HPL Division 1 (2pm).
The visitors are having a difficult time of things this term and arrive in Holderness locked in a desperate struggle with Hessle Sporting United to avoid the wooden spoon and possible relegation.
Since the turn of the year just a solitary point has been yielded, which came in a meeting of the bottom two at Haworth Park on the first Saturday of 2019. This has been followed by five straight defeats, the latest of which came via a 5-0 reverse at Blackburn Athletic a fortnight ago. It’s one of 18 defeats suffered in the 20 games played.
Compounding the losses is the nature of them, many of which have been on the resounding side. Rangers will arrive at Low Farm having conceded 99 goals and having a goal difference of -75, hence their position at the bottom.
Despite such statistics, the locals will be careful to take nothing for granted. Easington teams of the recent past have had a habit of slipping up against team they’re expected to beat and as such Adam Jamieson will demand the same level of performance as shown in the first half of last weekend’s win over Blackburn. “We played some really good stuff in the first half”, he says, during which the locals established a match-winning lead. Despite acknowledging that the performance in the second period never reached the same heights, Jamieson will be keen for his team to build on the momentum of the 3-0 win.
Andy Graham and Ash Snaith are both absent from last week’s squad but Chris Frost and Nathan Verity return. New signing Luke Smith is again handed the chance to have a run with the Reserves, as is recent addition Ben Harrison. With Craig Smalley returning to training in midweek, it now means there is real competition for places ahead of the semi-final in ten days’ time.
The referee tomorrow is Paul Poucher and the match is being kindly sponsored by Kam Cheng.
Squad: Joe Taylor (GK), Anthony Barnett, Danny Blount, Brad Bowden, Karl Fitzpatrick, Kris Fitzpatrick, Chris Frost, Adam Jamieson, Steve Jamieson, Luke Jeffery, Owen Mountain, Nathan Verity, Dan Warcup, Ben Wilbraham
