Families bask in glorious sunshine on the opening day of the mini and youths rugby season at Eastbourne RFC

The start of the season for the clubs mini and youth section started got off to a flying start on Sunday 1st September. The day formally known as Registration Fun Day is the first day that all returning new and existing players come together to register for the season ahead. The Parents Coaches Association (PCA) was formed last year by Trudie Godfrey is now under the new direction of the new Co-Chairs Rachel Bourne and Zoe Philipson. The group with the support of Ashley and Lynne from The Crosse Bar, organised different activities for the younger sections of the club, from bouncy castles, inflatable assault courses, sumo wrestling ring to glitter tattoos and for those with a sweet tooth, homemade sweet cones, homemade ice-cream, freshly made cakes and muffins. For the adults and children there was chance to win some amazing prizes all donated by local businesses to the raffle. All this while listening to wonderful music from a live DJ.

Due to the incredible generosity of the below businesses, the PCA managed to raise a staggering £452.06 which was up on last year’s registration day which raised £417.00. Last year this money helped to fund various events at the club, firstly the colts and women and girls joint section Christmas party, it helped towards a volunteer’s curry evening hosted at the club and more recently funds towards children’s equipment for preschool children to play with whilst older siblings train during the week and at weekends.

Those companies providing raffle prizes were:

Willingdon Golf Club and Pro Shop, Eastbourne
Bookers Eastbourne
Curzon Cinema, Eastbourne
Muffin Break, Eastbourne
The Rodmill, Eastbourne
Sportswise, Eastbourne
Freedom Leisure
Urban Jump, Heathfield
The Crosse Bar, Eastbourne Rugby Football Club
The Malthouse, Herstmonceux
Sovereign Harbour Chandlery
Eastbourne Theatres
Tesco Extra Eastbourne
Wightman & Parrish, Hailsham
The Beach Kitchen, Eastbourne

Those that stayed later into the day, where treated to some stunning action as our newly bolstered colts side held their first game of the season, playing a friendly against Brighton RFC. The game was fast paced with end to action from start to finish. The game ended in favour of Brighton 24 – 34. Eastbourne showed great promise for the season ahead.

Please keep an eye out for further events being hosted by the PCA over the year.
