Rugby at Eastbourne RFC Suspended Until 10th January

You will be aware of the current increase in COVID19 locally and nationally, which in turn means all of Sussex is now in Tier 4 restrictions.

Secondary schools are not returning until at least 18th January and some Primary schools nearby are also closed.

The RFU has already suspended all Rugby for Seniors and as a Club we have considered how best to proceed with Rugby for the other Sections of the Club. Currently the RFU permits them to return at Stage E, which allows Contact Rugby.

Taking into account the ongoing risk to all our players, members, coaches and wider community, we have decided to suspend ALL Rugby at Eastbourne RFC until the 10th January. No training or matches are permitted until that date.

This is not a decision we take lightly but we feel it is in the best interests of all concerned.
Some other local clubs are taking a similar approach.

We will review this again next week and look to bring Rugby back to Eastbourne as soon as it is safe to do so.
Once we confirm a return date, we will provide guidance on the current RFU Stage and any actions required.

Thank you for your ongoing support and please keep yourself and your loved ones safe.

Nick Chambers
Head of Rugby
Eastbourne RFC
