It is with immense sadness that we have to inform you of the recent passing of Tommy Tomlin.

Tommy has always been a huge supporter, player, friend, an instrumental and popular figure here at Eastbourne Rugby Club to which he will be sorely missed not just to those at the Club but across Eastbourne and Sussex itself.
Tommy was liked and respected by many and those who had the good fortune to meet him.

A former Royal Marine with K Company 42 Commando who served in the Falklands War. Originally from Sheffield but blessed East Sussex by moving to Hailsham then Eastbourne in the 80’s

Our Club’s former President and Sussex Rugby President John Feakins said, “It is sad news that our old friend and rugby comrade Tommy Tomlin has died. We have many happy memories of rugby matches, tours and nights at The Victoria. He was completely irrepressible, irreverent and unforgettable”.

Our Head Coach and personal friend Aidy Norwood said “Tommy embodied the true meaning of being an Eastbourne Rugby club member. He was the forerunner and upholder of many club traditions either in the clubhouse , on tour or The Victoria pub especially on a Sunday!!!
Tommy had many talents (off the field) a comedian , magician , stuntman and general entertainer. Everyone who met him will have a story to tell about Tommy , a true character a loyal friend to many , basically ... a legend . RIP mate x”

On behalf of all at ERFC our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this very sad and difficult time.

Mr Tomlin’s full military funeral is on Friday November 6 at 11am at Eastbourne Crematorium with donations in his memory to cancer charities or St Wilfrid’s Hospice
