Div 3 Cup East Durham C 57 v 48 Teesside Lions B
The two top sides in div 3 came head to head and the loss on Friday was etched into the EDC players heads. Clerihew made EDC tick early on as he caused havoc inside but Lions were able to match the threat with Kavanagh leading the way with 4 points while EDC saw 7 points from Clerihew and were glad of a three from Dickinson late in the last minute of the period. Lions were pressing after a basket but EDC sorted their passing and went 19-12 up after 4 minutes with Bell scoring early and doing a good man defence against Ridley. Lions hit back to close the gap to 4 after 6 minutes but EDC then sorted their defence of box 1 and Gallimore and Blenkinsop scored on the break and in the last minute turnovers cost Lions as Gallimore threw up a long three on the buzzer and was fouled and he hit 2 and EDC led 32-17. Lions made a better start in the third period closing the gap but Clerihew again drove inside for points but Wetherly caused problems for EDC inside but picked up fouls going to the line scoring 2 from 7 frees and again Dickinson hit a three just when Lions felt they had a chance to close the gap and it finished 42-32.Lions came out working hard in defence to limit damage and Forgive Kavanagh and Ridley were causing turnovers but every key basket was matched by EDC with Webster and Gallimore hitting from range. Kavanagh hit three fast break baskets but despite the press EDC kept the lead around 10 points all the way and Lions will rue missing 19 frees in the game as EDC held on for the win and the double of league and cup wins.
