Needing victory to secure a third consequtive League title, their 5th in 9 years of competetive football, a confident Eastfield Sports flew out of the blocks following a team talk from injured captain Cailum Webster.
It was perhaps fitting that in their final match their opponents would be Thornton Dale a team who've probably taken more points off Eastfield in the last 5 years than any other team. The teams shared the points earlier in the season with Thornton knocking an under strength Eastfield out of the league cup in December to spoil a possible second Treble. A close encounter followed in the semi final of the District FA Cup with Eastfield running out 2-1 victors to go on to win an exciting final against York League Brooklyn.
With Webster and Cairan Moss both injured and Jordan Salt working, Eastfield had a squad of 13 to choose from while Thornton started with 10 players before getting up to full strength midway through the first half, but found themselves trailing 3-0 after 15 minutes.
Goals flew in at regular intervals as the hosts put in a brilliant team display to clinch the League Championship.
After the final whistle Eastfield made a presentation to Brian Edmond and Thornton Dale in recognition of the football and friendly rivalry developed between the teams over the seasons.
