Match report

Hendred go six points clear as two see red
Division Three leaders East Hendred Reserves maintained their fine run of form when posting a fine 2-0 victory over Lambourn Sports Reserves at Mill Lane. East Hendred started well and should have been in front as early as the tenth minute when Liam Eltham was adjudged to have been brought down in the box and referee Leroy Paddock pointed to the spot but Ben Eltham stepped up and fired his spot kick wide from twelve yards. Lambourn almost took the lead moments later when Dan Glozier latched onto a through ball and he took a touch and fired past East Hendred keeper only to see it hit the inside of the post and cleared off the line by East Hendred defender Will McDonald. Then both sides had half chances but failed to hit the target until Hendred took the lead with a fine move from Steve Vaux who found Jamie Wilkins on the right and he took a touch fired over a pin point cross where Vaux met the ball running to head past Lambourn keeper Ben McKevitt from ten yards out. The game was then reduced to ten a side just before the half time whistle when Toby Daley and Michael Coles were given their marching orders following an after ball incident. The second half started with Hendred doubling their lead on fifty minutes when a fine long ball found Hendred’s leading scorer Liam Eltham who took a touch and fired his shot past McKevitt and into the back of the net from just inside the Lambourn box. Hendred were now in full swing which then saw long range efforts from McDonald, Eltham and Tom North which either whistled over the Lambourn bar or were straight at McKevitt.Lambourn were struggling to get any hold on the game as Hendred pushed forward and Liam Eltham was denied by a last ditch challenge by defender Shaun Randall when in front of goal. The final twenty minutes of the game saw Lambourn keeper McKevitt keeping the score down with a number of fine saves mainly tipping over a Liam Eltham drive from close range and then saving with his feet on his own goal line from a Jake Farmer close range effort. East Hendred remain six points clear in Division Three following this result and on this performance will take a good side to knock them off top spot.
