The Owls 1st League Match saw them travel to Sutton Courtenay to play Hanney Utd by another name(Westminster). The game was as bizarre as the opponents restructure! I treat for any nuetral watching as both teams thought out a 10 goal thriller but, frustrating for both managers and teams equally as a result of neither side being able to hold onto the lead and some truly inconsistent application of the Laws of the game by the referee who left himself open to criticism by making or not making at times major decisions from a good distance away from the action. Mike Hooton put The Owls ahead in the 2nd Minute (his 1st League goal for The Club) firing home form 12 yards. The Owls should have had a penalty moments later when Hooton was clean through on goal only to be brought down by the home keeper but the referee waived away appeals! Westminster   equalised 12 minutes later  and stole the lead  shortly after when a blatant push on Simon Joyce was missed and a Westminster forward nodded over Kyle Kerbys head in The Owls goal.  The lead was shorth lived as Captain Liam Mccullough drove home to equalise and then Tom North made it 3-2 just before the break. Westminster then scored from a corner in the 47th minute of the half to make it all square from the break.
2 minutes after the restart  Marc Merritt rose to head The Owls into the lead form a corner only for Westminster to pull it back agin 10 minutes later. Fine work by another debutant Alex Watts put Mike Hooton through against the keeper and this time a penalty was awarded when he was upended again despite the referee being some distance away. Tom North converted the kick to and 3 points were in our grasp.  Unfortunately, The Referee had other ideas and from a late corner   awarded the home side a penalty for an alleged elbow by Simon Joyce while jumping for the ball, the decision again made form some distance away through a crowd of bodies. So it finished 5-5  not the best result we could have wished for but work in progress with this new side.
