In what was their most important game of the season East Leake put out their strongest squad and were rewarded with a convincing victory over Southwell.

Good work by Mulligan and Thompson set up Strickland to score an early try which was converted by Roper. Southwell came back well, using their big forwards to try and break Leake’s defensive line, but great tackling by Gonsalves, Green and Elton stopped them in their tracks and then Southwell gave away a penalty. Roper kicked the ball into the 22 and good work by the backs set up a try for Green to make the score 0-12. East Leake continued to defend well and Southwell were again stopped by a big tackle by Burbidge. Good play by the backs gave another try to Strickland to make the half time score 19-0.

East Leake got off to a good start in the second half with a well worked try from Burbidge.

A kick- through from Roper was followed by Nassau and great work by Mulligan set up Nassau to score to make it 0-31. Southwell were again put under pressure and they tried to kick clear but their kick was sliced which enabled Strickland to score a second try.

Southwell were able to clear again but good work by Thompson saw him galloping from the half way line to score a great try under the posts.

The final score came from Strickland who eased through a tired opposition to score a try to make the final result 0-52.

East Leake can be very happy with their performance as it saw their hard work at training come together on the pitch.
