Easton 8 C.E.Y.M.S Reserves 1

After Tuesday nights win over Thorpe the first team welcomed CEYMS Res to the college. CEYMS had won 5-1 at one of the favourites for the division Freethorpe in midweek so Easton knew they would need to be at their best.

Three changes from the midweek game were forced with Tom Norman, Calum Burke and Luke Perry on holiday, working and at a wedding respectively. This meant first appearances of the season for Hayden Rutherford, James Morley and Andrew Fletcher.

With the changes enforced Easton started in a rather jittery fashion with possession, if not territory, being given away too easily in the first ten minutes. One or twice a pass was probably forced into an area it didn't need to be rather than taking the easier option.

That being said we were very much growing into the game by the minute and the first goal was not far behind. After working incredibly hard for not a lot of reward in the first two games Dan Burrett took in a slide rule pass from Josh Bull and fired left footed into the far corner of the goal. 2-0 quickly followed with Dan scoring again after turning well and firing into the corner after good work wide from Lee Newton.

3-0 wasn't far behind with James Wheeler scoring his 5th goal in 3 games before an incident that CEYMS could feel slightly aggrieved at. The CEYMS midfielder slid a through ball to their lively striker who after getting into the area appeared to be brought down by Chris in the Easton goal. He may feel like he'd gone down a little early and made the most of it but if it had been the other way round we'd have been disappointed if the man in the middle didn't point to the spot.

Just before half time Wheeler was brought down on the corner of the CEYMS are and after dusting himself off he fired his free kick high into the net to make it 4-0 and effectively kill the game as a contest.

Not the best we had played so far this season but the important stat was the score and the players were keen to push on in the 2nd 45.

Very much like the first half Easton were a little slow out of the blocks and one or two half chances were offered to CEYMS before we got a grip on the game again and Wheeler finished another good move for his hat trick and Easton's 5th. Josh Bull soon made it 6-0 when he struck from the edge of the area and skipper Al Williamson then made it 7-0 from a good Dan Burrett corner. The game was becoming more and more fractured with Easton making a few changes to allow players to rest however there was still time for two more goals.

First Hayden Rutherford robbed the CEYMS centre half before driving towards goal and finding the bottom corner to make it 8-0 before Easton got caught with too many players upfield and the lively CEYMS forward finished well when through 1 on 1. With the game running down Josh robbed the CEYMS defender again before being brought down by the goalkeeper for what looked like a nailed on penalty but the ref was unmoved. They do say these things even out so i'd suggest that was one each on the day!

A good performance all round even with the small spells where we were a little careless in possession and a good start to the season so far. Friday sees us welcome Blofield Res to the college for a 7.30 kick off. We hope to see you there.
