Goal of the season contender as Easton put themselves right in the mix.

After last weeks weather related call off against Freethorpe Easton were "away" at Yelverton this weekend but with them making their home at the college these days it meant nothing more than an extra home fixture.

This week has been very tough with player availability and it was only the night before the game that a squad of 12 was put together to play in what was going to be one of the toughest games of the season on paper.

Missing from the win at Brandon were Hayden, Morley, Brad and Nav and back into the fold came Raffa, Wheeler and Cal.

On a freshly rolled and cut pitch Easton started the game up the slight hill and into a light breeze and the opening stages of the game saw both teams trying to feel each other out. It was very much a midfield battle in the early going which was punctuated with periods of good play from both teams. The first real chances fell to the away side with Tom Norman firing just over from a loose ball before striking past the far post minutes later after good work from Matty Fell and Luke Perry down the right. These chances seemed to spark life into Yelverton and it was they who could have taken the lead shortly after. Good work down the left from the lively Elwin saw his pull the ball back to the onrushing midfielder very well saved by Chris in the Easton goal. From the resulting corner another snap shot was turned over the bar by Chris again to keep the scores level.

Easton got a foothold back in the game in the final 10 minutes of the half with Josh Bull seeing a deflected strike hit the outside of the post before a couple of consecutive corners applied some good pressure but the ball just wouldn't break for the away side and the scores were level going into the break.

HT 0-0

The second half started in much the same vein as the first finished and with Dan Burrett running the game well in central midfield alongside Norm, Easton were starting to look the more likely to get on the score sheet. James Wheeler, who had an exceptional day down the left, was growing into the game and it was his clever touch that put the opening goal in motion. As he drifted in off the left his clever back heel found Josh Bull a full 30 yards from goal and he unleashed an unstoppable, swerving drive that found the top corner of the Yelverton net for what will surely be a goal of the season contender. The home side were rattled and the second goal came ten minutes later. James Wheeler won a free kick on the touchline and his delivery found Lee Newton who's header was well saved by the Yelverton keeper but he couldn't hold the initial chance and after Luke Perry followed up the ball fell to Josh Bull again who rifled high into the net for a deserved 2-0 lead.

The dynamic of the game had now changed with Easton setting up for what was always going to be tough last quarter of the game. Yelverton were going back to front very quickly and Maxey up front was more often than not the target but Ollie Eastwood and Sam Capps at the back were in no mood to offer any leeway. There was time for Yelverton to have a couple of half chances with a free kick gathered by Chris before Timm fired high and wide from 12 yards before the ref brought an end to proceedings.

A superb team performance all round with everybody's work ethic and attitude exemplary on the day with Fletch at full back having a great day despite not getting a mention in the match report! This gives us a real platform to build on for the rest of the season but with another game against Yelverton next week it's only next Saturday on the agenda.
