Easton 4 Runton Utd 6

On a grey day we welcomed Runton of the North Easton Norfolk league to the college today in the last 16 of the Norfolk Junior Cup. We had existed this competition at the same stage last season so we were hoping to go at least one better today.

The game didn't start well with Runton on the front foot straight from kick off and Taylor had to save well in the opening 30 seconds as the lively winger cut inside but fired straight at him from close range. Parity didn't last long however as Runtn took the lead inside the opening ten minutes when a player rose unmarked from a corner and powered a header home.

This sparked us into life somewhat and we equalised on 20 minutes when a loose ball in the area found Beanie as his sweet left foot shot found the net to level the scores once again. We were then swiftly into the lead as Alex Pattison bravely stuck his head in and was clattered by the visiting keeper but the loose ball fell to Beanie who slotted the ball home for 2-1.

Runton were stunned and passes started to go astray giving us possession high up the pitch and ten minutes later we had another chance to extend our lead. Norm gathered a loose ball on the edge of the area and as he got his shot away an awful tackle felled him and the ref rightly pointed to the spot and Reynolds made no mistake from the spot to make it 3-1.

Just a few minutes before half time Runton had a life line when the lively full back shot from distance and Taylor was caught unawares and despite tipping the ball onto the bar the striker was on hand to bundle home for 3-2 just before half time.

Unfortunately this was a false dawn for the home team as a shocking second half display first saw Runton score 30 seconds into the second half to make it 3-3 before scoring a further three times including a stunning strike from 25 yards which found Taylors top corner before Reynolds broke away for a consolation goal a couple of minutes from time.
