Five star East Preston progressed to the third round of the Sussex Senior Cup after winning 5-0 at Crawley Down Gatwick.
Manager Bob Paine started the same team that beat Loxwood on Saturday and made just one change to the bench bringing in fit again Matt Searle at the expense of Mackenzie Oatway.
EP started brightly and controlled the first half with the lion’s share of possession. The first chance fell to Lewis Jenkins whose header from a Jake Heryet corner was cleared off the line and to safety. A fine move down the left resulted in Dave Beaney putting in a great cross which was met by Heryet but his effort just cleared the bar.
On 33 mins Tom Lyne went on one of his trademark runs from deep and fed the ball to Luke Brodie and his effort was deflected wide. It was all EP as the half drew to a close and from a Jack Barnes through ball Heryet’s effort was just wide. The breakthrough came on 41 mins when again from a Lyne run Asa Nicholson picked up the ball on the edge of the box and his left foot shot found the corner of the net to give EP the lead 1-0. Just three mins later EP doubled their lead when from a surging run forward by Beaney his great lay off found Heryet and his right foot shot beat Graves in the CDG goal 2-0.
Half Time: 2-0
CDG started the second half with a bit more possession bu 12 mins into the half Beaney made it 3-0 after great work on the right by Dan Huet found Beaney whose right foot shot beat Graves to put the game to bed.
EP continued their dominance and Nicholson had the next two chances one from a Lucas Pattenden cross where he headed straight at the keeper and then from a Scott Rafferty cross his poke at the near post went into the keepers arms. Pattenden had the next opportunity when his long range shot was tipped over by the CDG keeper Graves. Josh Etherington had the next chance but his header was well caught by Graves.
Goals four and five came in the last 5 mins. The fourth came from a fantastic pass from Barnes who found Huet who went through one on one and managed to force the ball over the line. The fifth came from Nicholson, his second of the game, after a bit of scramble in the CDG box the ball found its way into the net.
