This will be the second ever meeting between the two clubs, the previous fixture in December last year where Rocks run out 2/1 winners thanks to late goals from Sam Carter and Brian Moses.
A club with Greek Cypriot roots, New Salamis started out as a Sunday league side, winning the prestigious FA Sunday Cup in 2016. They only joined the Spartan South Midlands League in 2019, and after two rapid promotions made it into the Isthmian North this season.
They’ve definitely raised a fair few eyebrows with a string of impressive results in their first season at step four, which include standout wins over Lowestoft and Felixstowe, and currently sit in eighth place, two places and three points ahead of the Rocks.
Highly experienced striker Derek Asamoah might be approaching the veteran stage at the age of 41, but he’s definitely the man to watch having already amassed eighteen league goals for Salamis this term.
The Ghanaian international certainly fits the description of a “well traveled player”. As well as making over 300 football league appearances with the likes of Northampton and Shrewsbury, Derek has played in Scotland for Hamilton Academicals, for Lokomotiv Sofia in Bulgaria, had a spell with top French side Nice, and spent three years playing top level football in South Korea. He’s certainly got some air miles tucked under his belt.
One things for certain, this is going to be another really tough test for the boys, and we’d love to see as many fans at Rookery Hill tomorrow as possible.
